Chair/Secretary/Treasurer

I would like to join the board because Capital Pride Edmonton values align with my own. I feel like there is a lot of potential and with my contacts, resources, and drive I would’ve a great asset. I have spent all my life looking for a place to belong and for a place where I can do good for this world. Why not start with my home and an organization that is doing well? Helping the organization already has made me realize that there’s a lot of good people in this world who want to make a difference just as much as I want to.
Rakeem Walji is a 32 years old QTBIPOC  Canadian who grew up in Nairobi and Sherwood Park. He enjoys spending time reading history books, learning langages and swimming on the Making Waves Swim club. He has a passion for making people laugh and enjoys spending his time working with the community through volunteering his time, event planning, and working with the board.  He is a member of the lifesaving society and started a new job at Bj Electric.

Board Member at Large / Communications + Web

I’m interested in joining the board because I think it’s a great chance to match my skills with community organizing that is meaningful for me!

While I have a wide array of skills I’d be happy to share with CPE, I think I can bring the most value with a portfolio focused on communications, website management, and design.

I am a proud Edmontonian working in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion, helping people feel a sense of connection and belonging. My work allows me to create brave spaces for people to show up and have intentional conversations to create change. I am an ally to the 2SLGBTQIA community and hope to bring my voice to the table to create a more inclusive world and celebrate Pride in a truly Edmonton way, year round by supporting the board in an advisory capacity.

I would like to be more involved in the community and give back. I volunteered last year at Pride, had a good time and might have some suggestions to improve some things based on what I saw. I have 18+ years experience on Community League boards in multiple positions including programs, facilities and Vice President.
